In this article, we will meet a female pilot who made her name in aviation history with her flights at a young age. Let’s take a closer look at Victoria Louise “Vicki” Van Meter’s life.

Atlantic Ocean Flight

 Vicki Van Meter crossed the U.S. in a plane she used herself when she was just 11 years old. With this flight, she became one of the youngest female pilots in this category in US history. Van Meter’s passion for flying was intense. She managed to cross the Atlantic Ocean when she was only 12 years old. After these successes, she was the subject of an exhibition.

 Victoria L. Van Meter was born on March 13, 1982 in Meadville, Pennsylvania, USA. Meter, who started flight training at a young age, made her first flight in 1992 when she was only ten years old. In August 1993, she made a nonstop flight between Maine and Sand Diego with a Cessna 172 four-seat, single-engine civilian aircraft. Thanks to this flight, she crossed the USA from one end to the other and gained a great reputation throughout the country. One year later, at the age of 14, she made a nonstop flight between Augusta, Maine and Glasgow, Scotland in a Cessna 210. As a result, she became the youngest female pilot to cross the Atlantic by making an intercontinental flight.

These achievements have brought Meter great international fame. started appearing on television shows. she appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Van Meter was accepted by the US President at the White House. In 2003, she took part in the exhibition Women and Flight — Portrait of Contemporary Women Pilots.

Unfortunately, in 1996, a tragic event took place. As a result of the record attempt of Jessica Dubroff, a young pilot like herself, her plane crashed. In this accident, Jessica died along with her father and trainer. After this tragedy, young pilot candidates who have not completed the necessary training and legal age for flight in the USA, were prohibited by law from making record flights. As a result of this ban, it became clear that Van Meter’s record would not be broken. Banned from flying until she fulfills the legal requirements, Meter enrolled at Edinbro University after completing his high school education.

Van Meter graduated from the University with a high degree in criminal justice. Vicki later joined the Peace Corps as a volunteer and served in Moldova.

 Van Meter was found dead at his home in Meadville, USA, on March 15, 2008. Meter, who was declared to have committed suicide with a gun as a result of the forensic examination, was only 26 years old.
